This was a bit of a last minute Soulful Shoot earlier this month, and up there with one of my favourites. Mother-daughter coaching duo Jacquie and Ellie needed some brand photography for their new business, The Well Within, which they’re launching very soon - along with a podcast.
What I love about their offering, and what I find really inspiring, is that they’ve healed their own mother-daughter relationship and now work together to support others. Their work is rooted in lived experience and brings together two different generations and perspectives, which is really unique.
When I arrived at Ellie’s flat in South London, I was greeted by a much fluffier duo… Beans and Foz, Jacquie’s gorgeous dogs. I was instantly obsessed, especially with 16 year old Beans, who’s lost her hearing and sight. She managed to have a few of her own soulful portraits taken!
Once I’d gotten over the dog excitement, I met Jacquie and Ellie properly. We’d already chatted on Zoom, but it’s always so nice finally meeting clients in person. They were super warm, open and hands down the most organised clients I’ve ever had! They had a full printed shot list, outfit changes lined up and a bunch of creative ideas we’d gathered on a shared Pinterest board at the ready!
We stepped out into the warm summer sunshine and headed to the local park, where I photographed them both beneath a beautiful willow tree in the most dreamy light. These are some of my faves! A fallen tree also made a perfect perch for some natural, soulful portraits, and we had fun recreating an editorial-style image they’d saved from Pinterest, with both of them sitting on a bench side by side. We weren’t sure if we could pull it off, but it actually turned out really well.
Back at Ellie’s flat, we shot some relaxed lifestyle images in the lounge, a few portraits against the wall, some podcast-related shots, and then magic happened - with golden light pouring through the bedroom window, we quickly captured a few portraits there too.
Throughout the day, their beautiful relationship really shone through in the photos… the whole shoot felt so easy and natural, full of connection and creativity. There was lots of laughter, plenty of fanning ourselves (it was a seriously hot day), and the results? A set of strong, soulful brand images for their new website, Substack and socials.
